Wanjiku D.K. is the Founder and CEO of Kipepeo Green Heritage, and also serves on its board of directors. Before being named CEO in April 2021, Wanjiku was the chief operating office and was responsible for all the organizations’ activities, projects, operations, and sales, including the end-to-end management of Kipepeos’ tree planting projects across the country. She also covered partnerships and mergers, customer support lead and was the face of the project across all the counties. She did also head the Mentorship Department and played a key role in the continued development of strategic relationships, ensuring for flexibility in an increasingly demanding community affected by droughts, heat waves, poverty, and challenges in mental awareness concerns.
Prior to founding Kipepeo Green Heritage, Wanjiku worked at the UNHCR – Regional Directors Office, covering the South Sudan and Burundi situations. And before that she was with Good Samaritan Children’s Home in Mathare as their Chief Social Worker. In both assignments, her role was Child Protection – bringing out her passion on working with children and being a mentor to many.
She is currently undertaking her degree at USIU-Africa in International Relations specializing in peace and conflict negotiations.
She was nominated for the ZURI Awards for 2022 under the Agriculture Category. For Wanjiku, it’s about touching lives, inspiring communities one individual at a time, to become a hummingbird in their villages, help mitigate climate change, ending poverty through community empowerment and turning the world green again, one seedling at a time.
